Alright, so everyone this week is poking fun at Dr. Manhattan’s full frontal nudity in the new Watchmen movie. And yes I’m that much of an unoriginal loser for also posting my own comic on the subject. Though I found it very amusing to hear the reactions in the theater, from the audiences first awkward giggles (wasn’t this movie rated R?) to dead silence after seeing the glowing blue dong for the twentieth time. I can honestly say that I didn’t laugh or smirk, but I will admit that I was pleasantly surprised because they didn’t wuss out and stayed true to the comic. Though I know many people (mainly male I might add) that did not appreciate the accuracy whether or not they were a hardcore fan, not that I myself particularly enjoyed looking at Dr. Manhattans business every second shot.

So my review? I thought it was great, and very faithful to the comic. I was very impressed at how the time line was presented, which I thought would be a big challenge for the movie. And if you look closely you can find a few goodies in the film that fans of the comic will appreciate. My thoughts on the ending of the film are mixed, I agree that the comic version would be difficult to explain and make the movie even longer, but something about the movie ending didn’t sit right with me. Though I am looking forward to a directors cut that will cover more parts from the comic absent in the theatrical release. Oh, and I think both Jackie Earle Haley and Patrick Wilson did amazing jobs as Rorschach and Night Owl.

As for the comic, I tried out a bit of a different style which I still want to push a bit. I also gave Jynx and haircut and put glasses on Eve to more closely represent their real life counterparts.

This is both terrible and amazing at the same time.
